Форт Аделаида, также известный  как Цитадель, - это крепость, расположенная на вершине одной из гор горного хребта Мока на высоте около 100 метров над уровнем моря в столице Маврикия Порт-Луи.

Fort Adelaide, also known as "La Citadelle", is a fortress, located on a mountain top, the Port-Louis-Moka Mountain Range, at about 100 metres above sea level, in Port Louis.

Построена британцами  около 1835 года, чтобы защитить столицу от приближающегося французского врага, а также предотвратить  потенциальные беспорядки  перед отменой рабства.

 Built at around 1835 by the British, and used to protect the capital from the approaching French enemy, and also to prevent potential riots from slaves, before the abolition of slavery. 

Форт расположен на видном месте, откуда открывается панорамный вид на город  и его окрестности, а также на гавань.

The fort is located in a prominent position, with a panoramic view of the capital and its surroundings, as well as the harbour.

Ипподром Марсово поле. Построен в 1812 году, второй самый старый ипподром мира.

       Champs de Mars Racecourse. Built in 1812, the second oldest racetrack in the world.

Столица Порт-Луи расположена на северо-западе острова, население около 200 тыс.  человек. Это  экономический, культурный и политический  центр страны.

The capital, Port Louis, is located in the northwest part of the island, the population around 200,000 people. It is the economic, cultural and political center of the country. 

В 1735 году, под началом французского  правительства,  город  стал административным центром Маврикия и главной остановкой  французских кораблей, путешествующих вокруг мыса Доброй Надежды.

In 1735, under the authority of the French government, the city became the administrative center of Mauritius and the main stop of the French ships traveling around the Cape of Good Hope.

Порт столицы занимается международной торговлей и  играет важную роль в экономике страны.  Это самый большой центр обработки контейнеров в Индийском океане. 

The port is engaged in international trade and has played an important role in the economy. It has the largest container handling facility in the Indian Ocean.

Столица очень изменилась за последние 15 лет за счёт строительного бума.

The capital has changed a lot over the last 15 years thanks to the construction boom.

Сейчас цитадель является культурным местом  встречи как местных, так и приезжих артистов со всего мира, здесь проходят различные концерты и шоу.

Now the Citadel is a cultural meeting place for both local and visiting artists from around the world, where a variety of concerts and shows are organised.

Сначала пушки форта служили для защиты гавани, позже они были использованы, чтобы вызывать тревогу в случае пожара в городе.

Primarily the cannons of the fort served to protect the harbour then later, they were used to as an alarm in case of fire in the city.

Другие  достопримечательности города, которые мы с вами обязательно посетим,   включают  театр, центральный рынок, старейший национальный ипподром Марсово поле,  Дом Правительства, China Town, Музей Почты, Национальный музей, гавань  и др.

Other attractions of the city, which we are sure to visit include the theater, the Central Market, the oldest hippodrome of Mauritius - Champ de Mars, the Government House, China Town, Postal Museum, National Museum, the harbour, etc.
